McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park

The McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park is a special place located in Scottsdale, Arizona that railway enthusiasts and families alike can enjoy. This park is dedicated to educating visitors about railroad history and the critical role trains played in connecting America.

History: McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park

The park was opened in 1975 after being founded by Fowler and Anne McCormick. Fowler McCormick was a prominent businessman who had a passion for collecting and restoring antique railroad cars and equipment. He wanted to share his love of trains with the public, so he established the railroad park on the family’s estate. His wife Anne was also an avid supporter of creating an educational park.

One of the main highlights is the antique train you can ride on a one-mile loop around the park. It’s a reproduction of a 1907 Baldwin steam engine and is one of only five operational Baldwin steam engines in the United States! The 12-minute ride is a fun blast to the past.

The park also has an impressive collection of old cabooses, freight cars, and passenger cars on display. Railroad enthusiasts will appreciate examining the details of these full-size vintage train cars up close. Families can walk through the cars and pretend what it was like to ride the rails back in the early 1900s.

Model Railroad

Another star attraction is the 7.5 gauge Exhibit Model Railroad. It’s an incredibly detailed miniature landscape complete with models of trains and cities. Miles of meticulously crafted train track winds through mini mountains, towns, and valleys. It’s fascinating to watch the pint-sized trains travel through this elaborate exhibit.

Special Events

Throughout the year, the park puts on special themed events for families and train lovers. They host fun holiday events around Christmas. For train buffs, they hold expos where collectors can buy and sell railroad antiques. The park also partners with museums for educational events about railroad history.
